Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Reports indicate that the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is set to launch in India in 2025.
- The new Prado will be positioned between the Fortuner and the Land Cruiser 300 in Toyota’s lineup in India. It will use the TNGA-F ladder frame chassis and will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).
- There’s also talk of a smaller version of the Land Cruiser, known as the FJ, which is being developed and is sometimes referred to as a “mini” Fortuner.
- Toyota remains the largest carmaker in the world.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is set to return to India in the second half of 2025, according to Autocar India. This SUV was last sold in 2020 but is coming back with new updates and better features.
The Prado was taken off the market because it didn’t meet the new BS6 emissions standards. Now, Toyota has updated its vehicles, including the larger Land Cruiser, which has come back as the LC 300. The new Prado will be a smaller, but still powerful, off-road option.
Before it was discontinued, the Prado featured a 3-liter diesel engine that delivered 171 bhp and was paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. It was a strong off-roader, but the new version has been upgraded with better mechanics and technology. This includes a more powerful engine, improved suspension, and enhanced modes for off-road driving.
What’s new?
The new-generation Land Cruiser Prado, also called the Land Cruiser 250 in some places, will be a bit bigger and more comfortable than the previous model. It will keep the classic ladder-frame chassis but with 50% more strength, making it even better for rough terrains. The interior has been completely updated, featuring multi-zone climate control, luxury leather seats, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
It will likely be powered by the well-known 2.8-liter diesel engine, which is the same one used in the Toyota Fortuner. In other markets, it will also offer a 2.4-liter petrol-hybrid engine. Its main competitor will be the Land Rover Defender.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Colours:
The Land Cruiser Prado comes in eight different shades: Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Blackish Ageha Glass Flake, Attitude Black Mica, Avant Garde Bronze Metallic, and Vintage Brown Pearl Crystal Shine. It’s worth noting that certain colors are exclusive to specific variants.
Toyota’s Strategy for India
By bringing back the Land Cruiser Prado as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), Toyota aims to meet the rising demand for luxury off-road vehicles in India. Positioned just below the LC 300, the Prado will attract buyers looking for a strong, high-end SUV that works well both in the city and on rough roads.
Additionally, there are talks about Toyota developing a smaller version, known as the ‘mini’ Fortuner or Land Cruiser FJ, which could also be available in India in the next few years. This would help Toyota expand its SUV lineup, offering more choices for various budgets.
